| Abstract: | For centuries, bankruptcy was the last step in a company's decline: filing for court protection from creditors was not a feather in management's cap. The 1978 Bankruptcy Reform Act changed all that by opening up such filings to solvent companies seeking relief from particular financial burdens, such as product liability litigation. A successful reorganization can enhance management's reputation; however, many do not succeed. |
