Abstract:To elucidate conditions for success in managerial decision making, data were analysed from 53 cases of decision making in UK organizations. No relationships in the process of making the decisions, and their successfulness were found until business and non-business organizations were separated. In business firms, a successful decision occurred when sufficient information and means of implementation are at hand. In non-business organizations a successful decision is most likely when the right people participate and the top does not interfere too much.
