Abstract:The Robinson-Patman Act prohibits discrimination in price for commodities. This article focuses on the application of the Act to goods purchased for use in producing other products: industrial purchasing. First it explains the Act and summarizes how key aspects of the Act have been interpreted by the courts. Secondly, it summarizes some industrial purchasing cases to provide further insight into applicability of the Act. Thirdly, it contains an abreviated business literature review. Finally, it focuses on a summary of findings to help guide pricing actions, as well as policy development by purchasing management.
