Abstract:This paper attempts to redefine the agenda of economic sociology including the sociology of market as its principal subdiscipline. Some drawbacks in defining the subject matter of economic sociology have been identified, in particular the confusion between its realm and that of rational choice theory , as well as the spurious distinction between those of economic sociology and sociological or socioeconomics. Unlike in rational choice theory, but just as in sociological economics, the agenda of economic sociology refers to the social setting of economic variables and processes.
