Abstract:Thanks to the exploding popularity of virtual Webhosting services, relatively small businesses like the University of North Carolina's Johnny T-Shirt store and corporate giants like Allstate Insurance can all maintain impressive Web presences without investing in dedicated server hardware, multiple high-speed connections, or other expensive infrastructure. The economies of scale are so compelling that Forrester Research reports Web-hosting revenues tripled in 1997.
