Abstract:This paper analyzes the functions of Hong Kong and Shanghai as financial centers and the complementary relationship of driving force mechanism for development. It thinks that although there is competition between the financial industries of the two areas, it is virtuous. It belongs to the relationship of reciprocity and mutual benefit and promoting each other. Such a relationship is conducive both to stabilizing the status of Hong Kong international financial center and strengthening its strength and to the growth of Shanghai international financial center. Round about 2020, Hong Kong will likely become one of the largest financial centers in the world, standing side by side with London, New York and Tokyo. Shanghai, however, will possibly develop into a regional international financial center.
