Abstract:Though the Abacha regime still maintains that Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ongoings were hanged on November 10, 1995 in Port Harcourt on murder charges, the main cause for their protest was to halt the pollution of their environment by Shell. Governments and non-governmental organizations from all regions of the world condemned their execution no doubt, but it was the act that intimated the Euro-American oil transnational corporations particularly Shell International with the depth of environmental crises caused in the Niger Delta by the operations of Shell Petroleum Development Company.
