| Abstract: | This paper is based on data collected in a research project funded by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, Australia. The larger project examined the overall export behavior of food and beverage processing manufacturers located in the rural (non-metropolitan) regions of Australia's two most populous states, New South Wales and Victoria. The paper concentrates on very small, family-type enterprises (VSEs). It seeks to determine which of the firm-specific and managerially-related variables most strongly determine the propensity for VSEs to export and to differentiate them from non-exporting, VSE counterparts. |
