Abstract:From October lst 1998 on, on the three arterial railway lines--ingguang, Jinghu and Jingha, the high-speed trains will hit a speed of 90-104 km/hr with a maximum of 140-160 km/hr in the speedup sections. By then the travelling time will be greatly reduced, 9 hours less from Beijing to Guangzhou as an example. For this purpose, the central government has urged to accelerate the railway construction and the Ministry of Railways has had experts to set up the pre-study on Jinghu high-speed line. We reckon that the construction of this line would be commenced in 2000 and in full operation in 2005 with a design speed of 300 km/hr through technical renovation. By then, it will take a bit more than 5 hours only to travel from Beijing to Shanghai.
