| Abstract: | The authors analyze the reform of Chinese system of foreign trade with the rent-seeking theory and gain the following enlightenment.We should 1) give more enterprises the authority over foreign trade and standardize step by step and in a planning way the favorable policies towards foreign trade enterprises (FTEs) of different kinds of ownership and in different areas to promote the overall development of FTEs in the country; regulations and let more distribution through authority under the present system of foreign trade-which includes rents-be carried out through market (e.g.public bidding) as far as possible, thus reducing the sources of rent; 3) deepen the reform of the ownership system of FIEs, accelerate marketization, free the "invisible hand" from the "invisible foot" and bring the role of market mechanism into full play. |
