Abstract:Businesses struggling to make sure that their computer systems can operate in the Year 2000 might pause, for just a moment, to take comfort from the fact that most of their efforts will end after the next millenium starts. The same cannot be said for efforts to improve their ethical practices. Society has been trying to enhance business ethics for several millennia, and if history is any guide to the future, these concerns will continue long into the next one. Skeptics still regard the term "business ethics" as an oxymoron.
