| Abstract: | First this article presents basic information describing the US higher education system, and provides an overview of changes in the finance of American colleges and universities, focusing in the role of governments, institution and families in meeting college costs. The it examines evidence on the enrollment destinations of students from different income groups. The article concludes with a review of some recent policy developments, including the remarkable changes in federal tax support for higher education, and some speculations about the future. |
