Abstract: | The paper identifies the socio-economic factors having impeded the Brazilian government's attempts to privatize its banking sector in privatizing global economy. It is argued that the persistence of subnational claims, collapse and acquisition of private banks, market demand and supply, foreign participation, and globally oriented financial market challenge Brazil's federalism and embed the state as financial entrepreneur. The study is based on systematic survey and case studies of Brazilian private and public financial conglomerates as well as reports. |
