Abstract: | This article will attempt to show a new kind of German influence in Central and Eastern Europe: important but not dominant; civil and economic, not military (except in the Balkans); multilateral, not unilateral. By persistently supporting the continuing integration of Europe, Germany dilutes and diminishes its own national power over time and deprives itself of the capacity to act unilaterally. |
