| Abstract: | The paper makes a conceptual as well as an empirical contribution to the title's subject. Responses form a sample of 50 interpreters working from German and/or English confirm that simultaneous interpreters sometimes face the challenge of rendering humour. The findings suggest among others that humour in conferences mostly takes the form of anecdotes, jokes and irony, mainly for purposes like introducing a subject or a speaker, easing tension, or breaking up a difficult subject. |
