Abstract:This article shows how physical and structural conditions and environmentally harmful household consumption in housing areas vary substantially. Empirical data examines urban size, density and distance to the city centre and shows that these factors can be related to the concept of the compact city. Assumption behind this article is that compact urban structures would lead to reductions in the ecological footprints of households and their houses.
