| Abstract: | Based on organizational ecology concepts, this article identifies determinants of the development of research-oriented new ventures (henceforth as: v. / v-s). The empirical study reveals that these v-s. grow fastest when they possess much seed capital, are founded under conditions of high market growth, do not introduce an entirely novel product and cooperate with a university.
