Abstract:This study presents the findings from a survey of undergraduate students of business and economics, which examined perceptions of dishonesty in academic and business contexts. Data were collected from students in transitional economies in Eastern Europe and Central Asia and in the United States. The results show that academic cheating is common in all the countries studied, and substantial number of students indicated that it is socially acceptable and not ethically wrong. Students in both the United States and the transitional economies viewed dishonesty in a business context more severely than in the transitional economies. American students apply a relatively higher standard of honesty toward behaviour in both the academic and business settings.
