Abstract:This article examines the formation and growth of new businesses by discussing the results of the Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (PSED). In the study the proportion and characteristics of starting entrepreneurs in the U.S. were determined. It was studied which kind of activities nascent entrepreneurs undertake in the business start-up process and what are the proportion and characteristics of the start-up efforts leading to new firms. The prevalence rates for nascent entrepreneurs are described by gender and ethnicity on following demographic variables: age, education, household income, and urban context.
