Abstract:This article presents a review of the international studies that have used econometric models to examine the labour supply decision of Registered Nurses (RNs). The results suggest that in the short-run, RN labour supply appears to be fairly unresponsive to changes in wages. As a result, even large increases in wages are unlikely to be successful in tackling the predicted nurse shortages. However, the writer concludes by arguing that these empirical findings should be taken with some caution.
