Abstract: | In this paper, the significance of intra-couple and intra-household influences on self-employment is explored. Ordered probit (here as: o-p.) and random effects o-p. analysis is used to explore the prevalence of employment (here as: empl.) matching and/or risk pooling within couples or households. Based on cross-section data drawn from the British Family Expenditure Surveys from 1996 to 2000, the empirical analysis provides evidence of empl. type matching both within dual earner couples and (to a lesser extent) in the wider context of working household members. |
