Abstract:The purpose for which knowledge is managed affects on the knowledge management (KM) methods needed. In the article the purpose for KM is knowledge creation in new product development (NDP) projects. Many companies have adopted different methods of KM in order to support NDP projects and knowledge creation during these projects. The authors consider how ten of these methods work. A survey including information about utilization of and satisfaction with the different methods of KM from 94 NDP projects is presented. The ten most satisfactory KM methods are then examined in more detail in order to explain how they operate to back up knowledge creation during the NPD projects. The authors conclude by discussing the possible means to evaluate the contribution of these KM methods.
