Abstract: | This paper discusses soil remediation, which is one of the most difficult management issues of municipal and state agencies. A general, transparent, and consistent method for decision making among other remediation alternatives is introduced. The decision theoretic model is applied to a case study on heavy metal contaminated soil. It is shown that the use of "maximizing expected utility" as decision rule is critical in that it may lead to a high probability of misses. |
