Abstract:Some biotechnology companies have started marketing health-related genetic tests for direct purchase by the consumer. Still, there is little evidence of the usability of those tests. This article raises awareness of ethical concerns related to direct-to-consumer marketing of genetic tests. By analyzing corporate webpages, this study presents how companies handle the ethical issues of health-related genetic tests. The main finding is that the biotech companies are not providing balanced information on ethical issues of those tests. The companies must step up and meet the ethical challenges, study suggests.
