Abstract: | Multi-stakeholder standards have become increasingly important in the global rule-setting for responsible behavior. The main benefits of this approach are consensus-building, knowledge sharing and interest representation. Still, there is not much information on the effectiveness of multi-stakeholder standards. This article compares those standards to other collaborative standards. It is found that multi-stakeholder standards are more collaborative and well-elaborated. However, monitoring and implementation rarely support the goal of increased participation. |
