Abstract:This paper provides an in-depth discussion on the crisis in theory and organization. The authors regard organization studies as a machine that is out of control and that can cause confusion and contradictions. Theorizing is a way to help navigate and understand contemporary organization. Therefore theory can be a solution to this crisis if it can recover its capacity for theorizing. According to the authors the state of contemporary organizational theorizing is remarkably similar to earlier situation of ambulatory automatism.
