Abstract:This paper reports on qualitative case study which explored the adoption of healthcare information systems (hereafter as HIS). The particular case analyzed was a group of surgeons in a Danish hospital, where an Electronic Patient Record (hereafter as ERP) system was put into service. The study focused on the interaction between the surgeons and the information system and the boundaries between them in the daily work practices. The user perspective was applied to bring out the surgeonsÂ’ experiences and reactions to the adoption and mandatory use of ERP. The findings are not completely in line with previous studies on technology adaption. They provide an alternative approach to adoption process that is important to managers who attempt to ensure successful adoption of HIS.
