Abstract:This paper reports on case study which explored the development process of technology-based start-ups. The idea of this paper is to discuss the relation between firm’s need to look at new developments for future performance and the need to take advantage of existing capabilities to generate adequate value in the short term. The analysis based on social system theory revealed that goal attainment, pattern maintenance, social networking and economic optimization are functions which entrepreneurs use to develop their business and build sustainable firms.
