Abstract:Based on a set of semi-structured interviews with men and women aged 50-52, this article investigates the issue of work-life balance from a gender sensitive perspective. The findings of the study indicate that gender still plays an essential role in negotiating work-life balance. The interviewed men linked their difficulties in finding a work-life balance to those times in their lives when they fathered small children, whereas women found they had to negotiate the balance between work and home throughout their lives. However, also clear diversity among men and women who either "work to live" or "live to work" was found.
