Abstract: | This article reviews Turkey as a case example in the challenges that industrial design sector faces in newly industrialized countries. The social, economic and environmental problems caused a mental barrier for the Turkish design community. The situation is getting better thanks to technological development and global influence. The conclusions of the paper reveal that the designers can overcome the mental barrier and think independently and improve socially responsible design practices if they understand the local context and try to get linked to the global context. |
