Abstract: | The article discusses issues concerning the double-edged role of tourism: the destroyer of originality of destinations and provider of prospects. The concept of Community Benefit Tourism Initiatives (hereafter as CBTIs) is introduced, defined and studied in order to obtain a better understanding about the factors that enable the development of a successful, sustainable and responsible CBTI. Particular attention is paid to the roles played by government, the private sector, non-governmental organizations and communities. Also the possible problems related to CBTI and their solutions are considered. |
