Abstract: | This paper aims at looking at how tourism, wealth and higher education (hereafter as: h-e.) are linked, and how the location of h-e. education in English (HTEE) is related to the importance and role of tourism in a country. The focus is on master programs in tourism taught in English, developing two scenarios of the future spatial distribution of tourism h-e. in an increasingly global and competitive market. It is found that i. in the 1st scenario, one with students being more mobile than teachers, programs will be concentrated in a few wealthy countries, being also important tourism countries, and ii. in the 2nd scenario, programs and teachers will follow students and, consequentially, h-e. distribution and tourism development and wealth will be distributed in a more equitable way. |
