Abstract: | Based on a sample of UK firms in-depth investigation, the paper expounds the following results: i. The institutional block-holding is negatively associated with directors' ownership and is positively associated with board composition, suggesting that institutional block-holders (henceforth as: b-hlds.) regard directors' ownership and board composition as substitute and complementary control mechanisms, respectively. ii. The UK institutional b-hlds. prefer smaller firms and firms with a shorter listing history. The presence of institutional b-hlds. is associated with smaller boards and lower trading liquidity. iii. The investment preference of UK institutional b-hlds. varies with the level of their shareholding. |
