Abstract: | This article is based on a case study of a catastrophic wildfire occurring in the Western Canada in 2003. A hierarchy btw. firefighting (hereafter as: f-f-g.) groups was resulted in due to the organization of the f-f-g. efforts and unequal support and praise from the public and the media. This created inter-group tension and conflicts that f-f-g. personnel (here as: f-f-grs.) resolved through discursive strategies. Herein, it is argued that without examining masculinity dynamics there cannot be a fully understanding of f-f-grs.' strategies for negotiating the hierarchy. |
