Abstract:Decisional fit refers to a situation when a decision maker's individually preferred decision strategy fits the one actually applied. The authors conduct five studies to find out the impacts of a fit between the individual preference for intuition and deliberation, and the strategy applied. The results suggest that decisional fit has a positive effect on the perceived value of the object in evaluation. In addition, decisional fit decreased the amount of regret experienced by the participants. The study shows that strategy preferences interact with the strategies applied, thus the consideration of individual differences has a significant role in comparing intuitive and deliberate decision making.
