| Abstract: | The article investigates how specific incumbent characteristics affect an established company's response to disruptive innovation. The focus is on challenges that a middle size, top segment company experienced and how this influenced its reaction to disruptive threat. A case study of Hasselblad, a manufacturer of professional cameras, is conducted. Hasselblad's management of the transition from analogue to digital camera technology is examined. As a conclusion, the article argues that the managerial challenges and solutions to the innovator's dilemma depend upon the specific characteristics of incumbents. |
