Abstract:The role of environmental protection in international law is analyzed. The historic background of the question is outlined.The nature of the transnational environmental problems is described. The Stockholm conference is discussed as a starting point. The efforts of the OECD countries are analyzed. The role and importance of the Geneva Convention is outlined. The Vienna Convention for protection of ozone layer is described as an example of law-making. Problems of preventive cooperation and scientific uncertainty are mentioned. The content of the obligations resulting from legal instruments for contracting states are summarized. Law and politics are discussed as two basic parts of the environmental field.
