Abstract:To appraise the performance of corporation's professional researchers is the most important source of information on training needs for that group. A specially assigned task force produced two recommendations: (1) an employee must be actively involved in his or her appraisal; (2) the quality of the interaction between subject and supervisor must be improved. The process is divided into three parts: self-appraisal, the appraisal proper and an interim half-yearly progress review. The system's philosophy of personal involvement will be extended to career development.
