Abstract: | Corporate MIS departments can reap big benefits by trimming the time and money spent on software maintenance. Corrective, perfective and adaptive typers of maintenance are mentioned. A series of strategies at all stages of software operations are recommended in relation to existing or future systems, personnel, and the development process itself: 1/ improving documentation; 2/ minimizing modification; 3/ planning and control of change maintenance; 4/ application of structured design and programming techniques; 5/ use of application generators and fourth generation languages; 6/ giving proper tools and incentives to the maintenance personnel; 7/ treating software as a corporate asset. |
