Abstract: | The achievement of satisfactory growth rate is confronted by the CEOs of all Canadian companies.Many strategies have been used including vertical integration and diversification. While a strategy to integrate vertically is based on whether to make or buy products used in the company's manufacturing process, a diversification strategy is intended to broaden the firm's industrial base.This article describes why a tobacco producer tried to integrate vertically, but failed. The author writes about the company's switch to diversification and describes the key components of successful diversification strategy. |
