Abstract:The monitoring of employees /with hidden microphones and cameras/ can be seen as a continuation of Taylorism. The monitoring is increasingly being done by electronic devices. Rising concern over drug use at work, HDS, and escalating health insurance costs also exert pressure on managers to conduct more intensive screening and monitoring. But such efforts will erode individual rights to privacy and may cause psichological stress and reduce productivity. Thanks to advances in software, employers can monitor employees working on microcomputers, using telecommunication devices. Monitoring may increase the violations or abuses howerer it is intended to stop them.
