Abstract: | It is revealed how a firm can remain competitive in industries in which typical product lives are only a couple of years. For this purpose a product technology development model is presented. In this model, the product life is monitored very carefully. The critical points in this search are: product opportunity perceived and research begun; key functional technology breakthrough made; first commercially feasible product shipped and operational; product standard emerged; limits of functional and feature technologies met; structure technology advances no longer cost justifiable. |
