Abstract:The major cause of failure in information systems design can be summarized so: communication gap between systems staff and users. Computer technology has not been able to correct errors to human factors. User involvement or user participation has been suggested as the solution to this problem. Discussed is a case of user-involved systems planning for a hospital. The case illustrates the point that systems planning is extremely important and that the system development cycle, that most systems professionals talk about, cannot be applied directly.
