| Abstract: | Considered is the problem of finding an operating policy for a continuous review inventory system in which there are two modes of resupply. Prior research shows that optimal policies are extremely complex given the level of generality that was considered. Focus is on a reasonable heuristic policy. A natural generalization of the simple model is worked out. Derived is an expression for the approximate expected average cost per unit time, and outline the procedure for computing the values of the four policy variables that minimize this cost function. |
