Abstract: | The shortcomings of traditional approaches to occupational stress and burnout are examined. Previous research tended to adopt a psychological perspective which pays insufficient attention to the complexity of the interrelationship between social conditions and subjective experience. Greater attention should be paid to organizational and societal influences on the experience of work. |
