Abstract:Human service workers in human service organizations were studied to analyze the effects on both satisfaction and commitment of multiple predictors from three categories of job characteristics, organization characteristics, and worker characteristics. Job satisfaction and organizational commitment are each affected by a unique hierarchy of predictors. Two job characteristics, skill variety and role ambiguity, are the best predictors of satisfaction, while two organization characteristics, leadership and the organization's age, are the best predictors of commitment.
