Abstract: | The general position of the British Telecom is described. The telecommunication sector is compared with other industries. Strategic problems are highlighted. The organization of the company is analysed. General themes and trends in the development of ventures are outlined. Three quite different Telecom ventures are described as illustrations. Although traditional voice telecoms are expected to remain the company's dominant business, the new ventures are thought to have greater long-term growth potential. The importance of an enterprise culture which rewards innovation and risk-taking is highlighted. Common factors in new ventures are listed. |
