Abstract:The extent to which the commodent in commodity outputs can be characterized as resulting from a common aggregate shock or from a more diverse set of independent disturbances is attempted to determine. The continuously compounded rates of growth for thirteen commodity output groups from the industry structure decomposition of the Index of Industrial Production are analyzed. It is suggested that explanatory power of a common aggregate disturbance for industrial outputs is significant but not very large for most industries.
