Abstract: | New information and communication technologies can increase substantially the speed and precision of information flows within a company. Two domains of application are examined in detail: production and office. It is shown how modern information and communication technology helps production planning and production control, the use of up-to-date methods of logistics (KANBAN), control concepts (Just-in-Time), and manufacturing systems (Computer Integrated Manufacturing). The role of this technology in office automation is discussed. A number of tools and methods are assessed. Some societal effects of the new technologies are described and analyzed (on privacy, on new work forms, costs and so on). |
