Abstract: | The case of a financial institution located in a rust-belt manufacturing area is described. This area has saturated with numerous business reversals. The bank resurrected itself by means of an organizational development (OD) strategy based on a carefully crafted organizational change. Longitudinal data on both financial and interpersonal variables provide proof that OD works. The lessons of OD successes and earlier failures are analyzed to derive a series of macro building blocks as well as more effective intervention strategies that can be used by change agents in situations similar to the one depicted in this study. |
